In Memoriam
They left us far too soon, yet their presence still echoes through every hallway, every memory, every story we tell. The Point Loma High School Class of 1986 was shaped by their laughter, their kindness, their mischief, their dreams, and losing them carved a quiet ache into the heart of our community. But grief is only part of their legacy. The rest is love. The rest is the way their names still come up with a smile, the way their spirit shows up in reunions, in friendships that survived decades, in the way we hold each other a little tighter because they are no longer here to do it themselves. They will always be part of who we are, woven into the fabric of our youth and the pride of being Pointers. Gone too soon, but never forgotten.
Frederick Abano
2026
Rick passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on January 18, 2026, at the age of 58 years young. He spent the last 5 years in end-stage renal disease, with his two daughters fighting against borrowed time to provide as much love as his days allowed. He is so deeply cherished -- and both of his daughters, Mileena and Samantha, will forever uphold their promise to keep his memory alive.

Stephen Dietz
2025
Steven Dietz, died of liver cancer. He had only been diagnosed five weeks before. He was with his wife Angela and son William. We all are heartbroken and miss him so much. Steven was a wonderful brother, husband, father and friend. He was only 57.

Roxane Rea
2023
This past week, on Wednesday October 11, our mother passed away after a long and difficult fight with brain cancer. She is an absolute hero and fought every day with a smile on her face and positive attitude throughout all of it.
Pat Monaghan
2023
Very sad to pass along the news our fellow classmate, Pat Monaghan, died by suicide. Pat had been struggling with his mental health. He was so much fun to be around. Such a jokester and solid poker player. Always a smile on his face and a kind word.

Alex Cagle
2017
Alex Cagle passed in his sleep in New Mexico. We fulfilled his request and members of the Class of 1985, 1986, and 1987 returned him to the Ocean off the OB Pier.
